MBK: Trojans struggle in loss to Wayne State at home

MADISON, S.D. - The Dakota State University men's basketball team returned back to action Wednesday night as they hosted NCAA Division II Wayne State at the DSU Fieldhouse. The Trojans struggled in the game and suffered an 81-36 defeat from the Wildcats.
The Trojans suffered their third-straight game loss and dropped one game below .500 (5-6 overall). Wayne State improved their overall record to 4-6.
Wayne State jumped to a 12-2 lead and continued to pile points in the first-half. The Wildcats limited the Trojans to 14 first-half points for a 44-14 halftime lead. Wayne State shot 57.7 percent (15-for-26) compared to the Trojans' 23.1 percent (6-for-26).
The Wildcats outscored the Trojans 37-22 in the second-half.
Reserve Spencer Adams scored 10 points for the Trojans. He shot 5-for-10 from the field. Jackson Parr and Santino Clay each added eight points. Parr and Adams each had three rebounds.
Wildcat Jason Jensen went 11-for-15 from the field, including a perfect 6-for-6 from the 3-point line for 30 points. Amry Shelby and Brett Spiker each added 10 points. Elijah Miller scored 11 points. Brian Metz grabbed nine rebounds and Spiker added eight rebounds.
Wayne State shot 29-for-47 from the field (61.7 percent) compared to the Trojans' 15-for-50 (30 percent). The Wildcats outrebounded the Trojans 35-19.
The Trojans went 1-for-13 from the 3-point line. The Wildcats made eight 3-pointers in 14 attempts.
DSU will attempt to bounce back in the winner's column on Monday, Jan. 4 as they travel to Sioux City, Iowa to take on Morningside College. The non-conference game will tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
