Men's Basketball: Tigers' second-half surge defeat Trojans in Ed Harter Classic

MADISON, S.D. - The Dakota State University men's basketball hosted No. 4 Dakota Wesleyan in the Ed Harter Classic held at the DSU Fieldhouse Friday. The Trojans battled with the Tigers in the first-half and held a one point halftime lead at 36-35. Dakota Wesleyan used a 44-29 second half surge to defeat the Trojans 79-65.

The loss dropped the Trojans to 1-3 overall. DWU won their third straight game and raised their overall record to 4-1.

DWU opened the game with hot shooting, going 9-for-10 field goal, for a 25-15 lead with 11:16 left in the first half. The Trojans closed the first half with a 21-10 run to take the halftime lead.

With DWU leading at 58-55 with 9:19 left in second half, the Tigers used a 21-10 closing run to seal the victory. The Tigers shot 51.9 percent in the second half compared to the Trojans' 34.4 percent.

DSU was led by Santino Clay with 15 points. Bryce Snyder recorded a double-double with 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Eric Bauder came off the bench with nine points and recorded game-high 13 rebounds.  Jason DeZeeuw dished out six assists for the Trojans.

Four Tigers scored in double figures and were led by Brady Wiebe with 23 points. Preston Broughton had 13 points. Chase Walder added 12 points and Mitch Bain scored 11 points.

The Trojans won the rebounding battle, 45-37. DSU had 18 offensive rebounds and scored 13 second-chance points.

The Tigers forced the Trojans to 17 turnovers for 20 points.

Dakota State will host Dana College in the second day of the Ed Harter Classic Saturday night. Tip-off is slated at 6 p.m.
