Men's Basketball: Trojans record first home 'W' of the season over Vikings

MADISON, S.D. - The Dakota State University men's basketball team hosted Dana College on the second day of the Ed Harter Classic at the DSU Fieldhouse Saturday. The Trojans secured their first home victory of the season as they defeat the Vikings 86-80.
The Trojans snapped their three-game losing streak to raise their overall record to 2-3. Dana dropped to 2-3.
After Dana's early 3-0 lead, the Trojans scored 11 straight points and went 5-for-5 from the field. Dana would used a 9-0 run to re-gain the lead back at 14-12. Both teams had exchanged leads midway through the first half.
The Trojans went on a 7-0 run to break 28-28 tie before Dana's Alex McCleary hit a 3-pointer at the end of the half.
With Dana and DSU tied at 37 with 18:41 left in second half, the Trojans went on a 29-15 run to take their biggest lead of the game at 66-52.
Dana kept coming back in the game as the Vikings cut the deficit to 82-80 with 17 seconds left. Trojan Santino Clay and Derek Kreutzfeldt made their free throws in the final seconds to secure the win.
The Trojans shot 60.8 percent (31-for-51) from the field compared to the Vikings' 42.9 percent (24-for-56). Dana recorded 17 3-pointers in the game. DSU out-scored the Vikings 34-8 in the paint.
All DSU's starters scored in double figures. Clay was 10-for-15 from the field for 24 points. He added five assists. Kreutzfeldt scored 15 points and Bryce Snyder added 12 points. Jason DeZeeuw recorded 11 points and dished out seven assists. Jackson Parr added 11 points.
Tristan Washington led the Vikings with 18 points. AJ Arkfeld and Taylor Oltjenbruns each had 12 points. Jake Brandl and Danny Peterson each scored 11 points. Peterson had eight assists for Dana.
DSU had a plus 10 rebounding edge (35-25) over the Vikings. Kreutzfeldt and Snyder each had seven rebounds for the Trojans. Oltjenbruns had seven rebounds for Dana.
Eric Bauder recorded four blocks in the game for DSU.
Dakota State will attempt to make it two and three straight wins as they hit the road next weekend. The Trojans will visit Trinity Bible in Ellendale, N.D. on Friday, Nov. 20th at 8:00 p.m. On Saturday night, DSU will visit Presentation College in Aberdeen, S.D. for a 7:30 p.m. game.
