Men's Basketball: Trojans lose exhibition game to Jackrabbits 72-58

BROOKINGS, S.D. - The Dakota State University men's basketball team stepped aside of their regular season as they traveled to NCAA Division I South Dakota State University in an exhibition game. The Jackrabbits rushed to a 39-25 halftime lead, and held on to a 72-58 exhibition win over the Trojans Monday at the Frost Arena.
Dakota State opened the game with its only lead of the game 2-0, before the Jackrabbits went on a 7-0 run. SDSU extended their lead with 16 points with 2:57 left in the first half. The Jackrabbits were 8-for-12 from the three-point line compared to the Trojans' 3-for-11 in the first half. In addition, SDSU was 7-for-11 from the free throw line while the Trojans did not attempt a free throw.
The Trojans and Jackrabbits each scored 33 points in the second half. SDSU had their largest lead of the game at 56-33 with 13:36 left in the game. The Trojans cut the deficit to 13 points at 67-54 with 5:41 left in regulation.
DSU was 18-for-27 at the free throw line in the second half.
The Trojans shot 39.1 percent from the field compared to the Jackrabbits' 38.1. SDSU won the rebounding battle, 40-37.
Derek Kreutzfeldt led all scorers with 17 points for the Trojans. He was 4-for-9 from the three-point line. Jackson Parr posted a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Santino Clay added 12 points.
Twelve different players for the Jackrabbits scored in the game. Garrett Callahan led the Jackrabbits with 13 points. Griffan Callahan had seven rebounds.
The Trojans will return home this weekend as they host the Ed Harter Classic. The event is in honor of DSU's longtime men's basketball head coach Ed Harter. DSU will host No. 4 Dakota Wesleyan on Friday night at 7 p.m. and Dana on Saturday night at 6 p.m. All games will be held at the DSU Fieldhouse.
