Trojan Volleyball loses regular season finale

MAYVILLE, N.D. - Fighting for the higher seed in the rugged DAC volleyball standings, the Trojan volleyball team traveled to Mayville State Wednesday night.  The Trojans lost in a thrilling five-set to the Comets - 25-21, 13-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-13.  The loss dropped the Trojans to eighth seed for the DAC Volleyball postseason tournament.  Mayville State has the sixth seed in the tournament.

The loss dropped the Trojans to 9-18 overall and 4-10 in the DAC.  Mayville State raised their record to 12-16 and 5-9 in the DAC.

Margie Anthony led the Trojans' offense with 19 kills.  Rachael Jensen added 17 kills and Ashley Schulte had 8.  Mollie Merriam recorded 30 set assists.

Jensen had 23 digs for DSU's defense.  Stephanie Kruggel added 18 digs.  Katie Green and Shelby Tollefson each added 14 digs.

The Trojans had 15.5 team blocks compared to the Comets' 7.  Schulte and Vicki Kaul each had eight block assists.

For Mayville State, Kacie Fortmann had 16 kills.  Ashley Haines added 13 kills and Alyssa Clancy had 12.  Betsy Winkler recorded 25 set assists and Brittney Lindgren added 23 assists.

Tara Thompson had 26 digs and three service aces for the Comets.  Fortmann added 16 digs and Brianne Gebeke had 12 digs. 

The Comets had one more kill than the Trojans, 59-58.  Mayville State recorded eight service aces in the match to the Trojans' 3.

The DAC Volleyball postseason tournament play will begin on Saturday, Nov. 7th.  The Trojans will travel to #1 seed Jamestown for a 7:00 p.m. match.  The Jimmies are undefeated in the DAC conference play with a 14-0 record.
