Trojans lose to No. 7 Lancers in women's basketball action Friday

YANKTON, S.D. - The Dakota State University women's basketball team traveled to the Cimpl Arena for a non-conference game against Mount Marty Lancers Friday.  The Lancers raced to a 45-31 halftime lead and defeated the Trojans 88-60.

The loss dropped the Trojans' overall record to 4-6.  Mount Marty, No. 7 in the latest NAIA Women's Basketball Division II Poll, won their fifth straight game and raised their overall record to 13-1.

With the score tied at 5-5 with 15:55 left in the first half, the Lancers used a 20-7 run for a 25-12 lead.

The Lancers continued to expand their lead in the second-half with their largest lead at 81-48 with 5:29 left in regulation.

Donna Lavea recorded a double-double for the Trojans.  She went 8-for-10 from the field and 4-for-4 at the free-throw line for 20 points.  She grabbed 12 rebounds.  Allegra Kohley went perfect from the field (7-for-7) and free-throw line (3-for-3) for 17 points off the bench.  Brittany Bemis added seven points.

Ten Lancers players scored in the game.  Kendra Schomer went 7-for-12 from the field, including 5-for-8 at the 3-point line for 19 points.  Kylie Gross added 18 points and went 9-for-11 from the field.  She gathered eight rebounds.  Whitney Lickteig and Michelle Amundson each scored 13 points for Mount Marty.  Amundson dished out eight assists.

The Lancers outshot the Trojans 59 percent to 37.9 percent.  Mount Marty went 14-for-26 from the 3-point line compared to the Trojans 2-for-16 night.  The Trojans had four more rebounds than the Lancers (34-30).

Mount Marty scored 30 points off turnovers compared to the Trojans' eight.  The Trojans committed 20 turnovers, while the Lancers had 16 in the game.

DSU will step out of regular-season Saturday (Dec. 19) afternoon as they travel to Wayne, Neb.  The Trojans will face NCAA Division II Wayne State in an exhibition game at 3 p.m.  The Wildcats won the first meeting 92-49 in Madison, S.D. on Nov. 23rd.
