Coyotes defeat Trojans in DSU men's basketball exhibition game

VERMILLION, S.D. – The Dakota State University men’s basketball played their final tune-up game Wednesday before opening the Dakota Athletic Conference play (Saturday). The Trojans traveled to the USD DakotaDome for an exhibition game against NCAA Division I University of South Dakota. The Coyotes never trailed in the game as they defeat the Trojans 111-59.

DSU remained 4-3 overall record on the season. USD won their third straight game, all against NAIA schools, and raised their overall record to 5-3.

The Coyotes scored the first nine points of the game and extended to 20-5 run with 14:25 left in the first half. During that span, every USD starter scored and as a team shot 8-for-11 from the field.

DSU committed four turnovers in the first 5:35 of the game as the Coyotes scored nine points from turnovers.

USD extended their lead at 54-27 at halftime. The Coyotes shot 57.6 percent (19-for-33) compared to the Trojans 28.1 percent (9-for-32) in the first half.

The Coyotes outscored the Trojans 57-32 in the second half.

The Trojans had 22 turnovers in the game to the Coyotes’ 11. USD outscored the Trojans 30-4 in points off turnovers. USD’s bench scored 58 points compared to the Trojans’ 15 points.

USD shot 39-for-69 from the field (56.5 percent) compared to the Trojans 22-for-66 (33.3 percent). The Coyotes had a 43-35 rebounding edge over the Trojans.

All eight Trojan players scored in the game. Jackson Parr went 8-for-17 from the field for 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Trojans. He had 10 points in the first half. Aaron King added 12 points. Bryce Snyder had nine points and grabbed six rebounds. Jason DeZeeuw had four assists.

Seven USD players scored in double-digits led by Jordan Boots with 21 points off the bench. Mitchell Bouie added 18 points. Roman Gentry and Louie Krogram each had 13 points. Tyler Cain recorded a double-double with 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Jake Thomas had 11 points and dished out seven assists. Dustin Tetzlaff added 11 points.

Dakota State hosts Mayville State on Saturday in both teams’ DAC Conference season opener. Tip-off is slated at approximately 6 p.m. (or 25 minutes after the completion of the women’s game).
