Trojan Women's Hoopsters lose to Wildcats at home

MADISON, S.D. - The Dakota State University women's basketball returned home Monday as they hosted NCAA Division II Wayne State College.  The Wildcats shot 5-for-5 from the 3-point line for a 23-6 lead with 12:26 left in first half and defeated the Trojans 92-49.

The loss dropped the Trojans to 3-5 overall record.  Wayne State remained undefeated in three games.

The Trojans opened up with a 2-0 lead with a field goal by Ellesse Washington.  Wayne State scored the next 12 points and extended to a 43-22 halftime advantage.  The Wildcats continued to expand their largest lead at 86-40 with 4:53 left in regulation.

Allegra Kohley led the Trojans off the bench with 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds for DSU.  Washington added 10 points.  Brittany Bemis dished five assists and Katie Bourk added four assists.

Ashley Arlen went 10-for-15 from the field and 6-for-8 at the free-throw line for 27 points for Wayne State.  She grabbed 10 rebounds.  Kati Jo Christensen added 19 points and Alyssa Fischbach had 12 points.  Ali Schwartzwald recorded seven assists.

The Trojans committed 28 turnovers in the game.  Wayne State scored 35 points off turnovers.  The Trojans had 16 offensive rebounds and scored five second-chance points compared to the Wildcats' eight offensive rebounds for 13 second-chance points.

Wayne State shot 57.1 percent (36-for-63) from the field compared to the Trojans' 25.4 percent (15-for-59).

Both teams will meet again on Dec. 19th.  It will be an exhibition game for DSU in Wayne, Neb.

DSU women's basketball team will step aside their regular-season schedule on Saturday as they travel to Kearney, Neb. for an exhibition game.  The Trojans will face NCAA Division II University of Nebraska-Kearney for a 2 p.m. game.
