WBK: Trojans lose exhibition game against NCAA D-I Wyoming

Box Score vs. Wyoming

CASPER, Wyo.  - The Dakota State University women's basketball team took a break from their regular-season schedule as they traveled to the Casper Events Center for an exhibition game with NCAA Division I University of Wyoming Saturday.  The game was part of the BlueCross BlueShield of Wyoming Shootout.  The Trojans lost to the Cowgirls 102-54.

The win lifted the Cowgirls' overall record to 8-1.  The Trojans remained at 4-5.

The Trojans scored the first basket of the game and led the game twice in the opening minutes.  The Cowgirls used a 9-0 run to take a 11-4 lead with 15:11 left in the first half.  Wyoming extended their lead at halftime, 48-30.

The Cowgirls outscored the Trojans 54-24 in the second half.

Lashonda Martin scored 10 points for DSU.  Donna Lavea, Alyssa Kirk and Allegra Kohley each added eight points.  Lavea grabbed nine rebounds and Katie Bourk added seven rebounds.

For Wyoming, Hillary Carlson went 11-for-16 from the field for 26 points.  She grabbed nine rebounds.  Kristen Scheffler scored 21 points off the bench.  Emma Langford added 16 points.  Aubrey Vandiver recorded a double-double with 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. 

The Cowgirls shot 51.3 percent from the field to the Trojans' 36.4 percent.  The Trojans committed 18 turnovers compared to the Cowgirls' five. 

Wyoming had 31 assists in the game compared to the Trojans' eight.

DSU will face a tough competition next weekend on the road.  The Trojans will face No. 8 Mount Marty on Friday, Dec. 18th in Yankton, S.D. at 6 p.m.  On Saturday, Dec. 19th, DSU will play an exhibition game with NCAA Division II Wayne State.  The game will be held in Wayne, Neb. at 3 p.m.
