WBK: Trojans fall short to No. 13 Minot State 68-66

Box Score vs. No. 13 Minot State
MADISON, S.D. - The Dakota State University women's basketball team hosted Minot State at the DSU Fieldhouse Friday night. The Trojans could not hold their lead in the second-half as the Beavers rallied for 68-66 DAC conference win.
The Trojans suffered their second straight loss and dropped to 6-8 overall and 1-1 in the DAC. Minot State, No. 13 in the latest NAIA Division II Women's Basketball poll, raised their record to 12-3 and 2-1 in the DAC.
Minot State had a brief 2-0 lead and DSU went on a 13-4 run to take a 13-6 lead with 13:26 left in the first half.
With DSU holding a 18-15 lead with 6:46 left before intermission, the Trojans went on a 15-8 run to take a 33-23 halftime lead.
The Beavers went on a 27-17 second-half run to tie the game at 50 with 11:04 lead in the game. The teams alternated the lead in the closing minutes. The game was tied at 62 with 1:59 left and the Beavers made key free throws by Ari Hendrix and MacKenzie Mack. Minot State held a 67-64 lead with eight seconds to go. Trojan Katie Bourk made a layup to cut the deficit to 67-66 with 1.4 seconds, but it wasn't enough as DSU could not secure a win.
Minot State outscored the Trojans 45-33 in the second half.
Dakota State was led by Alyssa Kirk with 18 points. She drained six 3-pointers in the game and recorded four assists. Angela Green went perfect from the field (6-for-6) for 13 points. Ellesse Washington recorded a double-double with 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Bourk scored seven points, gathered 11 rebounds and dished out six assists. Donna Lavea had eight points, grabbed seven rebounds and recorded two blocked shots.
Hendrix scored 21 second-half points for a total of 24 points in the game for Minot State. She went 6-for-13 from the field and 11-for-15 from the free-throw line. Hendrix stole the ball four times. Mack recorded a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Sam Meldcalf had 16 points.
The Trojans outshot the Beavers 41.9 percent (26-for-62) to 37.9 percent (22-for-58). The Beavers went 17-for-24 at the free-throw line in the second half compared to the Trojans' 3-for-7.
Minot State forced the Trojans to 14 turnovers in the second half.
DSU outrebounded Minot State 43-40.
The Trojans look to bounce back as they host Dickinson State Saturday (Jan. 9). The game will be held at the DSU Fieldhouse at 4 p.m.
