Photo Courtesy by Scott VoigtMADISON, S.D. - The Dakota State University women's basketball team hosted Dickinson State in the DAC Conference action Saturday afternoon at the DSU Fieldhouse.  The Trojans could not tie the game with .8 seconds left as the Blue Hawks clinched a 56-54 thrilling win.

The Trojans suffered their second straight two-point defeat (lost to No. 11 Minot State 68-66 Friday night) and dropped to 6-9 overall and 1-2 in the DAC.  Dickinson State won their fifth straight game and raised their overall record to 11-6 and 3-1 in the conference.

Dakota State scored six straight points to open the game.  The Trojans held the Blue Hawks to no field goals in the first 3:53 of the game.

With the Trojans holding 17-11 lead with 9:51 left in the first half, the Blue Hawks went on a 7-0 scoring run to grab their first lead of the game, 18-17 with 7:54 to go before intermission.  Dickinson State grabbed a 30-27 halftime lead.

Dickinson State used a 13-4 scoring tear to grab their largest lead at 43-31 with 15:46 left in the game.  The Trojans responded with a 21-5 run to overtake a 52-48 lead with 5:57 left in regulation.

The Blue Hawks came back and tied the game at 52 and 54.  Jennifer Marquez made two free-throws for Dickinson State's 56-54 lead with 1:58 left.

Marquez missed a bonus free-throw situation with five seconds to go.  The Trojans called timeout with .8 seconds to go.  Dakota State could not tie the game at the buzzer as Blue Hawk Kia Herbel stole the ball from Trojan Katie Bourk underneath the basket.

Ellesse Washington recorded a double-double with 19 points and gathered 14 rebounds for Dakota State.  She went 9-for-18 from the field.  Donna Lavea scored 12 points and recorded three blocked shots.  Bourk added 10 points and dished out five assists.

Blue Hawk Kelsey Boedeker went 6-for-10 from the field, including 2-for-3 from the 3-point line for 16 points.  She dished out seven assists.  Herbel had 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.  She had two blocked shots.  Kylee Bittner added 13 points.

Dakota State struggled from the 3-point line, going 4-for-21 (19 percent) compared to the Blue Hawks' 8-for-18 (44.4 percent).

The Trojans outrebounded Blue Hawks 39-35.

Dickinson State committed 22 turnovers compared to the Trojans' 19.

Dakota State will hit the road for a DAC weekend trip to western South Dakota.  The Trojans will face South Dakota School of Mines on Friday (Jan. 15) in Rapid City, S.D. at 6:30 p.m. (CT)/5:30 p.m. (MT).  On Saturday (Jan. 16), the Trojans will travel to No. 6 Black Hills State in Spearfish, S.D. at 5 p.m. (CT)/4 p.m. (MT).
