Derek Kreutzfeldt - Photo by Scott VoigtMADISON, S.D. - The Dakota State University men's basketball team returned home Saturday night for a non-conference game.  The Trojans faced Mount Marty, a team from the Great Plains Athletic Conference, for the second time this season at the DSU Fieldhouse.  DSU swept the season series as Derek Kreutzfeldt nailed down a 3-pointer for a Trojans' 59-58 win at the buzzer.

DSU opened with an 8-0 early lead with less than four minutes in the game.  The Lancers would use an 11-2 run to cut the deficit to 13-11 with 13:24 left before intermission.

The Trojans would expand their lead to nine (22-13) with 9:51 left in the first half.  Mount Marty came within one point (24-23) with 5:56 left.  The Trojans took a 34-28 halftime advantage.

Dakota State expanded to their largest lead of the game at 52-38 with 9:07 left in the game.  The Lancers limited the Trojans to four points in a span of over nine minutes and allowed the Lancers to tie the game at 56 with 1:13 left.

The Trojans were given a chance to take the lead with less than one minute left.  DSU's Spencer Adams' shot was blocked by Jared Wall with 37 seconds left.  Dan Harmon made a layup with 2.6 seconds to give Mount Marty their first lead of the game.  DSU called a timeout after the layup.

The Trojans called another timeout to give the ball near mid-court with 1.5 seconds to go.  Kreutzfeldt nailed down a 3-pointer from the left wing at the buzzer to give DSU the win.

DSU's Kreutzfeldt was 5-for-7 from the field, including 3-for-5 from the 3-point line for 15 points.  Jackson Parr added 12 points and shot 6-for-10 from the field.  Bryce Snyder scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds.  Eric Bauder had six rebounds.  Everett Smith dished out nine assists and stole the ball four times.

Stephen Klekas scored 16 points off the bench for Mount Marty.  He was 4-for-8 from the field, 3-for-7 from the 3-point line and a perfect 5-for-5 at the free throw line.  Harmon and Wall each scored 14 points.  Wall had eight rebounds and four blocked shots.  Weston Kusser had nine rebounds.

The Trojans were 24-for-57 (42.1 percent) from the field compared to the Lancers' 18-for-45 (40 percent).  DSU struggled at the free throw line, going 7-for-15 (46.7 percent) compared to Mount Marty's 18-for-19 (94.7 percent).

DSU outscored the Lancers 38-20 in the paint.

The Trojans surpassed last year's wins total and lifted their overall record to 8-12.  Mount Marty dropped to 5-18.

The Dakota State University coaching staff took part of the nation-wide "Suit and Sneakers" day to raise cancer awareness.

Dakota State will attempt to make it two straight wins as the Trojans host Morningside College on Tuesday night.  Tip-off is slated at 7 p.m. as part of Daktronics Recognition Night at the DSU Fieldhouse.
