Buena Vista Indoor Track & Field Open Recap: Trojan men's 4 x 800 relay qualifies for NAIA Nationals

Matt FidelerThe Dakota State University indoor track and field team participated in the Buena Vista Open last Saturday.  The meet was held at the Lamberti Recreation in Storm Lake, Iowa.

The men's 4 x 800 relay team (Matt Fideler, Andy Coy, Cody Foreman and Tyler Van Peursem) recorded a first-place tie with Dordt with a time of seven minutes and 50.53 seconds and qualified for NAIA Nationals.  It was the fastest time in the NAIA.  In addition, it was a new school record, previously set in 2000 by Paul Saville, Cory Lund, John Ecklein and Shaun Frausen with a time of 7:51.54.

Andy CoyThe men's distance medley relay team (Andrew Manning, Phil Carmody, Andy Quenzer and Anthony Drealan) captured the title with a time of 10 minutes and 48.62 seconds.

Danielle Rowe captured the individual title in the women's high jump.  She cleared the high jump with a measure of five feet and 1.75 inches.  Stephanie Uher was third with a high jump measure of four feet and 9.75 inches.

Rowe placed fourth in the women's 55-meter dash with a time of 7.76 seconds.

The women's distance medley relay team (Brittany Young, Karisa Hartje, Stephanie Warnke and Samantha Warnke) placed second with a time of 13:08.73.  Cody ForemanThey fell eight seconds shorts to qualify for NAIA Nationals.

The men's 4 x 200 meter relay (Drew Allen, Stacey Berg, Zach Bakke and Jared Mengenhausen) finished second with a time of 1:34.43.

The women's 4 x 200 meter relay team (Laura Porch, Brandi Gau, Shelby Tollefson and Uher) placed fourth with a time of 1:53.26.  The 4 x 400 meter relay (Porch, Young, Clarie Beck and Gau) placed fifth in 4:19.98.

Tyler Van PeursemClarice Bauer was second in the women's one mile run.  She finished with a time of 5:38.70.

Fideler was second in the men's 3000-meter run in 9:02.64.  Devon Berkness was sixth in 9:17.99.

Foreman finished third in the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 51.89 seconds.  Van Peursem placed fifth in 52.56 seconds.

Danielle RoweBerg placed fourth in the men's long jump with a measure of 21 feet and 5.25 inches.  He was fifth in the triple jump (39' 10.5").  Berg finished sixth in the men's 55-meter dash with a time of 6.84 seconds.

Tollefson was fourth in the women's long jump with a measure of 15 feet and 6.75 inches.  She finished fourth in the women's triple jump (32' 7.75").

Berkness placed fourth in the men's one mile run with a time of 4:35.61.

Bakke was fifth in the long jump with a measure of 20 feet and 8.5 inches.

Brittany Pearson finished fifth in the women's weight throw.  She recorded a throw measure of 39 feet and one inch.

Young crossed the finish line in the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.09.

DSU will compete in the Northern State Open on Saturday, Feb. 6th in Aberdeen, S.D.  The women's and men's distance medley relay teams will compete on Friday night in Ames, Iowa.
