MBK: Trojans suffer two road losses to Blue Hawks and Beavers

The Trojan men's basketball team suffered two road losses to Dickinson State Friday night and Minot State Saturday night.  Dakota State dropped to 9-14 overall record and 3-7 in the DAC conference.

Dickinson State held a 27-23 halftime advantage over the Trojans at the Scott Gymnasium in Dickinson, N.D. Friday night.

The Blue Hawks shot 61.9 percent from the field (13-for-21) in the second half compared to the Trojans' 39.1 percent (9-for-23).  Dickinson State outscored the Trojans 36-23 in the second half.

Everett Smith led the Trojans with 14 points on 7-for-14 shooting night.  He had four assists.  Jackson Parr added 12 points.  He went 3-for-4 from the field, including 2-for-2 from the 3-point line and 4-for-4 at the free-throw line.  Reserve Spencer Adams added nine points.  Bryce Snyder had five rebounds.

Nathan Lebsock had 17 points for Dickinson State.  Matthew Lee scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds.  He recorded two blocked shots.  Ryan Ernst added 10 points.  Brian Lebsock had nine assists.

Dickinson State had 25 rebounds compared to the Trojans' 19.

#23 Minot State 93, Dakota State 70

The Beavers mounted a strong closing first-half run over the Trojans at the MSU Dome Saturday night in Minot, N.D.

Minot State is ranked No. 23 in the latest NAIA Men's Basketball Division II poll.

With Minot State leading 18-14 midway in the first half, the Beavers went on a 24-11 closing run to take a 42-25 halftime lead.

The Beavers scored 51 points in the second half compared to the Trojans' 45.

The Trojans played without Smith, who was injured.

Parr went 11-for-18 from the field for 26 points for Dakota State.  He grabbed nine rebounds.  Snyder added 15 points and gathered six rebounds.  Adams added eight points and five rebounds.  Kedric Johnson dished out four assists.

Five players scored in double figures for Minot State.  Nick Turner scored 22 points.  Shaun Johnson had 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.  Nathaniel Packineau and Jason West each scored 15 points.  Neil Packineau scored 10 points off the bench and had eight assists.  Marcus Balinton had 13 rebounds.

Minot State had 19 steals compared to the Trojans' four.  The Beavers forced the Trojans to 27 turnovers.  Minot State outscored the Trojans 29-3 in points off turnovers.

The Trojans return home on Feb. 12-13.  DSU will host Black Hills State on Friday night, Feb. 12th as part of the Elite One Sanford game sponsor night and "Hawaiian Night."  Tip-off is slated at 7:30 p.m.  On Saturday, Feb. 13th, the Trojans will welcome South Dakota School of Mines as part of DSU Faculty/Staff recognition night at 6 p.m.  All games will be held at the DSU Fieldhouse.
