DSU Indoor Track & Field hit seven national qualifying marks at Iowa State Cyclone Open

AMES, Iowa - The Dakota State University indoor track and field team had hit seven NAIA national qualifying marks at the Iowa State Cyclone Open last Friday at the Lied Recreation Center. The meet featured schools from NCAA Division I and junior colleges.
Cody Foreman captured the individual title in the men's 600-meter run. He finished with a time of one minute and 13.07 seconds and qualified for NAIA nationals.
The men's distance medley relay team (Matt Fideler, Foreman, Andy Coy and Tyler Van Peursem) made a bid to the NAIA nationals with a new DSU school record time of 10:11.99 and a third place finish. The previous mark was set in 2009 (Van Peursem, Foreman, Fideler and Anthony Drealan - 10:24.37).
The women's distance medley relay team (Stephanie Warnke, Brittany Young, Laura Porch and Samantha Warnke) broke a new DSU school record with a time of 12:43.20 with a fifth place finish. As a result, the women's medley relay team earned a berth to the NAIA nationals. They broke the old school record mark of 13:11.40 in 1997 (Amy Hansen, Meranda Reese, Katherine Fisk and Marie Parker).
Van Peursem finished fifth in the men's 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.15. He set a new DSU school record, previously set in 2009 by Van Peursem (1:54.60), and made an automatic qualifier to NAIA nationals.
Young set a new DSU school record in the women's 800-meter run in 2:20.28 and placed sixth. She earned a bid to the NAIA nationals. Young broke the previous old record set by Parker in 1998 with a time of 2:21.10.
Drealan made an automatic qualifier to the NAIA nationals in the men's 3000-meter run. He finished fifth with a time of 8:37.97.
Samantha Warnke was eighth in the women's 3000-meter run with a time of 10:38.17 and qualified for NAIA nationals.
Devon Berkness competed in the men's 5000-meter run. He finished 10th with a time of 15:25.84.
Coy was 15th in the men's 800-meter run in 1:58.10.
Fideler ran in the men's one-mile run and finished with a time of 4:25.44. He placed 10th in the event.
Stephanie Warnke was 14th in the women's 3000-meter run. She finished with a time of 11:15.44.
