MBK: Trojans upset No. 25 Black Hills State for DSU's 10th win

MADISON, S.D. - The Trojan men's basketball team recorded its second home upset of the season against a nationally-ranked team Friday night at the DSU Fieldhouse.  Dakota State's Derek Kreutzfeldt nailed two free throws with 9.7 seconds left for Trojans' 69-66 lead.  Clay Pottorff of Black Hills State missed a 3-pointer from left wing as the Trojans secured their 10th win of the season.

The Trojans overall record is 10-14 and 4-7 in the DAC Conference.  Black Hills State, No. 25 in the latest NAIA Men's Basketball Division II poll, dropped to 17-8 overall and 7-4 in the DAC.

Before the game, Dakota State gave a surprise for Jackson Parr as his father flew in from Australia.

Black Hills State led 16-14 at 10:52 left before intermission and went on a 14-5 run for a 30-19 lead with 3:40 left.  The Trojans used a 9-2 closing run to cut the deficit to 32-28 at halftime.

DSU opened the second half with an 8-0 run to overtake a 36-32 lead with 17:51 left in the game.  The second half featured eight ties.

With the score tied at 55, the Trojans went on an 11-6 run for a 66-61 lead with 1:48 left in regulation.  The Yellow Jackets cut the deficit to 67-66 with less than ten seconds left.

Four players scored in double figures for the Trojans.  Everett Smith had 14 points and dished out six assists.  He had three steals.  Parr added 13 points on his 6-for-8 shooting night.  Santino Clay scored 11 points.  He shot 4-for-5 from the field, including 3-for-4 from the 3-point line.  Kreutzfeldt had 10 points and five assists.  Bryce Snyder scored nine points and grabbed six rebounds.

Luke Enos recorded 30 points in the game for Black Hills State.  He shot 14-for-24 from the field.  Pottorff added 15 points.  Spencer Childress had seven rebounds and five assists.  Will Johnson scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds.

The Trojans shot 55.3 percent from the field (26-for-47) compared to the Yellow Jackets' 46.3 percent (25-for-54).  DSU struggled at the free-throw line, going 10-for-22 (45.5 percent) compared to BHSU's 11-for-13 (84.6 percent).

DSU was 7-for-12 from the 3-point line.  Black Hills State went 5-for-14 from the 3-point line.

Black Hills State outrebounded the Trojans 30-27.  The Yellow Jackets outscored the Trojans 10-2 in second chance points.

The Trojans look to make it two straight Saturday night as they host South Dakota School of Mines in a DAC Conference action.  Tip-off is slated at 6 p.m. as part of DSU Faculty/Staff recognition night.
