MBK: Trojans struggle in closing minutes with the Hardrockers, 60-51

Box Score vs. SD School of Mines
MADISON, S.D. - The Dakota State University men's basketball team looked to make it two straight wins Saturday night. The Trojans struggled in the closing minutes in a key DAC conference game as the Hardrockers took the season series, 60-51 at the DSU Fieldhouse.
The loss dropped the Trojans to 10-15 overall record and 4-8 in the DAC conference. SD School of Mines moved back to .500 with a 13-13 overall record and 5-7 in the conference.
The first half saw six ties. With the Hardrockers' 16-15 lead with 9:13 left before intermission, SD School of Mines went on a 10-6 run for a 26-21 halftime lead.
The Hardrockers continued to grow their lead to 38-30 with 15:14 left in the game. The Trojans went on a 14-6 scoring tear to tie the game at 44 with 8:32 left in regulation. DSU extended it to 49-46 with less than seven minutes to go.
SD School of Mines held the Trojans scoreless in a span of six minutes and went on a 14-0 scoring run to take their largest lead of the game at 60-49 with 14 seconds left. The Trojans ended their scoring drought with Derek Kreutzfeldt's two free-throws with less than seven seconds remaining in the game.
Reserve Brad Martin scored 14 points for the Trojans. He went 5-for-12 from the field and 3-for-8 from the 3-point line. Kreutzfeldt added 12 points. Jackson Parr netted eight points. Everett Smith had six assists and four steals. Bryce Snyder scored seven points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Four starters scored in double figures for the Hardrockers. Scott May scored 15 points on his 6-for-8 shooting night. Kyle Doerr and Robbie Fedor each scored 12 points. Kyle Turpin had 11 points on his perfect 5-for-5 from the field. He grabbed five rebounds. Doerr had six rebounds.
The Trojans struggled at the free-throw line, going 3-for-8 in each half. SD School of Mines was 13-for-17 (76.5 percent).
The Hardrockers outshot the Trojans 51.2 percent (21-for-41) to 38.8 percent (19-for-49).
SD School of Mines outrebounded the Trojans 37-24. DSU's bench outscored the Hardrockers 22-7.
Dakota State will play their final regular home game on Tuesday night against Trinity Bible College in a non-conference game. Parents and seniors night will be held. DSU's seniors will be honored prior to the game. Tip-off is slated at 8 p.m. at the DSU Fieldhouse.
