Box Score vs. SD School of Mines

MADISON, S.D. - The Dakota State University women's basketball team hosted South Dakota School of Mines Saturday afternoon at the DSU Fieldhouse.  The Trojans trailed 82-81 with 50 seconds left.  DSU's Katie Bourk scored a 3-pointer and four free-throws in the final 32 seconds for DSU's victory over the Hardrockers, 88-82.  The Trojans swept the season series with SD School of Mines.

The win snapped the Trojans' four-game losing streak.  DSU surpassed last year's total wins and raised their overall record to 9-15 and 4-8 in the DAC conference.  SD School of Mines dropped to 12-14 overall and 5-7 in the DAC.

The first half featured four ties and a total of 11 lead changes.  The largest lead of the first half was five by the Hardrockers.  SD School of Mines closed the first half with a 7-0 run for a 45-40 halftime advantage.

The Hardrockers went on an 11-6 run second-half opening run to take the biggest lead of the game at 56-46 with 16:54 left in regulation.  The Trojans rallied and tied the game at 61 with a 15-5 run in a span of six minutes and 25 seconds.

With the score tied at 74, the Trojans went on a 7-2 run to take an 81-76 lead with 2:10 left.  SD School of Mines overtook the lead back with a 6-0 run for an 82-81 lead with less than a minute to go.  Bourk nailed a 3-pointer with 32 seconds left for Trojans' 84-82 lead and secured the win.

Five players scored in double digits for the Trojans.  Donna Lavea scored a double-double with 27 points and gathered 13 rebounds.  She shot 8-for-14 from the field and 11-for-14 at the free-throw line.  Ellesse Washington added a double-double with 15 points and grabbed 11 boards.  Bourk added 17 points and she went 7-for-8 at the free-throw line.  She dished out five assists.  Allegra Kohley had 11 points and six rebounds off the bench.  Lashonda Martin added 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds.  Alyssa Kirk had eight points.

Ariel Granillo scored 22 points for the Hardrockers.  She shot 9-for-20 from the field and 4-for-10 from the 3-point line.  Granillo had eight rebounds.  Bethany Holyoak added 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double.  She had three blocked shots.  Shalane Hampp had nine points and nine assists.

The Trojans used an advantage at the charity stripe.  DSU went 26-for-36, including 20-for-26 in the second half, compared to the Hardrockers' 8-for-13.  The Trojans shot 43.8 percent (28-for-64) in the game.  The Hardrockers were 40.2 percent from the field (33-for-82).

DSU had 50 rebounds compared to the Hardrockers' 47.

A total of 15 blocked shots were recorded in the game.  The Trojans had eight blocked shots and the Hardrockers had seven.

Dakota State will play their final home regular season game on Tuesday night.  The Trojans will host Trinity Bible COllege in a non-conference game.  Parents and seniors night will be held with the seniors being honored prior to the game.  The game's tip-off is slated at 6 p.m. at the DSU Fieldhouse.
