MBK: Trojans suffer loss to Vikings in DAC Postseason Quarterfinals

VALLEY CITY, N.D. - The Dakota State University men's basketball team faced Valley City State in the DAC post-season tournament Wednesday night at the W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse. The seventh-seed Trojans trailed 32-27 at halftime to the second seeded Vikings. Valley City State outscored the Trojans 39-27 in the second half for a 71-54 victory over the Trojans.
Reserve Spencer Adams had 15 points for the Trojans. He had nine rebounds and one blocked shot. Everett Smith and Santino Clay each scored nine points. Derek Kreutzfeldt added eight points and grabbed five rebounds.
Four players scored in double digits for Valley City State. Chris Fuqua scored 16 points on his 7-for-9 shooting night. He had six rebounds and a blocked shot. Dareon Spencer added 14 points. Tyler Macomber and Calvin Kraft each scored 10 points. Orlando Anderson had five assists.
The Vikings shot 54.9 percent from the field (28-for-51) compared to the Trojans' 35.1 percent (20-for-57). Dakota State went 8-for-18 from the free-throw line compared to VCSU's 13-for-21.
Valley City State outrebounded the Trojans 36-27.
VCSU scored 18 fast-break points compared to the Trojans' two. The Vikings outscored the Trojans 49-20 in the paint.
The loss concluded the Trojans' 2009-2010 campaign at 11-18 overall record, four more wins than last year's total wins. The Vikings raised their overall record to 20-9. The Vikings will face sixth-seed South Dakota School of Mines, who upset third-seed Dickinson State 77-71 in overtime Wednesday night, on Sunday afternoon.
