WBK: Trojans conclude season with loss to Jimmes in DAC Postseason Quarterfinals

JAMESTOWN, N.D. - The Trojan women's basketball faced Jamestown, No. 10 in the final NAIA Women's Basketball Division II poll, for the second consecutive game at the Civic Center.  The second-seed Jamestown lead the seventh-seed Dakota State by nine points at halftime (38-29).  The Jimmies outscored the Trojans 36-24 in the second-half for a 74-53 victory over DSU (in the quarterfinals of the DAC Conference tournament on Wednesday).

Jamestown went 17-for-21 from the free-throw line in the first half compared to the Trojans' 8-for-11.

Ellesse Washington scored 16 points for the Trojans o her 6-for-9 shooting night.  She had three steals.  Alyssa Kirk recorded four 3-pointers and scored 14 points.  Donna Lavea added 12 points and had two blocked shots.

JC's Guili Varriano had 22 points and gathered 14 rebounds for a double-double.  She went 9-for-12 from the field.  Varriano had five steals.  Kellie Schuneman and Amanda Rantapaa each had 13 points.  Cori Doubek recorded two blocked shots.

Jamestown went 21-for-27 at the free-throw line compared to the Trojans' 10-for-13.  The Jimmies outshot the Trojans 44.2 percent (23-for-52) to 35.8 percent (19-for-53).

The Jimmies outrebounded DSU 38-30.

The loss concluded the Trojans' 2009-2010 campaign at 10-18.  Jamestown will host the sixth-seed South Dakota School of Mines, who upset third-seed Minot State 68-66 Wednesday night, on Sunday afternoon.
