DSU Athletics staff completes CPR training

March 3, 2010

Joe Reints at CPR trainingDakota State University Athletics staff was recently involved in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) classes, sponsored by DSU Human Resources in conjunction with the campus Risk Management Committee.  The training is part of the campus strategic plan to provide opportunities to employees as well as outreach to local citizens.

Tim McCough, Director of Marketing and Sales from Bio-Detek, conducted the training using a device called PocketCPR.  Madison Police Chief Chuck Pulford has equipped each of his police squad cars with the PocketCPR device, and was instrumental in bringing the training to Dakota State.  The PocketCPR (www.pocketcpr.com) device prompts the user with audible and visual feedback to perform CPR consistent with the American Heart Association (AHA) and International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) Guidelines.  The device is similar in size to a cell phone.  According to McCough, DSU is one of the first universities in the nation to implement the PocketCPR device campus wide.
