April 5, 2010
The Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) has selected Trojan junior outfielder Chance Hargrove and sophomore pitcher Nick Mutz for the weekly honors. Hargrove was named the player of the week. Mutz was selected as DAC's pitcher of the week.
The Trojans went 5-0 for the week including victories over Mount Marty and a four-game series sweep over Valley City State at the Flynn Field.
Hargrove batted .471 with a 1.118 slugging percentage in Trojans' five games last week. The native of Newport, Wash., played four of the five games and went 8-for-17 with two doubles, three home runs, nine runs scored and nine RBIs.
Mutz went 2-0, a save and recorded a 2.53 ERA during the week for DSU. In his three appearances, he pitched 10 2/3 innings, allowed four runs (one unearned) on nine base hits. Mutz, native of Rohnert Park, Calif., struck out 13 batters and gave up five walks. According to the NAIA DakStats statistical website, he ranks seventh in the nation in batters struck out per nine-inning (12.4), 18th in total hits allowed (22) and 45th in saves (3).
Dakota State will return back to action this weekend, hosting Minot State in a DAC four-game series. The series will be held at the Flynn Field. The doubleheaders will start at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
