Alumni volleyball match a success

Dakota State coach Amy Veenhof has a much better idea of the volleyball team she'll have next fall after the Lady Trojans concluded their spring season this past weekend. They hosted a scrimmage against an alumni squad here at the DSU Field House Saturday and then they went and played in a tournament at University of Minnesota-Morris on Sunday.
"It was great for the players to get the opportunity to just get out there and play," said Veenhof. "I really enjoyed the scrimmage against the alumni."
Veenhof joined the DSU coaching staff late last spring after her predecessor, Cynthia Henning who left Madison to join the SDSU staff in Brookings.
Before coming to DSU, Veenhof had been the assistant volleyball coach at Northern State University in Aberdeen since 2005.
"It was great meeting the DSU volleyball alumni who came and played Saturday," stressed Veenhof. "I hope that we will get even more alumni to come next spring and play. There has been lots of volleyball players to come through DSU."
As for her squad, Veenhof said, "They have been working so hard this offseason. We've made a lot of progress, and you could definitely see it this past weekend. Their hard work is paying off."
"Our ball control is better. Our serving has gotten more aggressive. We're hitting the ball a lot harder and jumping higher. I'm very pleased. We ended the spring on a very high note."
At Morris on Sunday, the Lady Trojans played 16 games and lost just once.
"It was a long day," added Veenhof. "The girls really enjoyed it. They all played really well. We ended the spring on a very high note. The girls and I head into the summer fired up and are excited about the upcoming season."
