Trojan Football team opens fall camp
August 18, 2010
Josh Anderson, second-year DSU head football coach, and the Trojan football team is looking forward to an exciting 2010 season. The Trojans opened their first practice on Monday, Aug. 16 at the Trojan Field.
The Trojans return 20 starters from last year's team and lost only three starters. DSU returns all-conference selections Joe Whealy (Madison, S.D.), Drew Allen (Castlewood, S.D.), Marshall Doeden (Sibley, Iowa) and Bryce Logan (Frankfort, S.D.).
"For the start of the season, it's been a lot of fun being around all the veterans again as well as seeing the new faces of the program," said Anderson. "The excitement is high and the competition is even higher. As a program, we've taken the proper steps with a year-round lifting program and fixed many problems through the summer workouts. We used the momentum from the end of the season last year and did a great job of finding depth, fixing problems and becoming academically sound as a whole. This program is shaping up nicely and coming along a lot faster than I anticipated which is exciting for everyone involved."
This will be the final year for Dakota State competing in the Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC). The Trojans will be a member of an independent team next year in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
DSU will kick off their 2010 football season at home on Saturday, Aug. 28 at the Trojan Field. The Trojans will host Midland Lutheran of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC). Game time is set at 7 p.m.
