DSU men's first, women's third in DAC XC preseason rankings

The preseason conference polls were released for the Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) men's and women's cross country. The preseason conference polls are used to determine the NAIA's Top 25 rankings and potential at-large bids at the end of the season as a team to qualify for NAIA Nationals. The Trojan men's team ranks first in the preseason poll while the Trojan women's team ranks third. The preseason national cross country rankings will be released on Aug. 25 (Wednesday).
The Trojan men's runners completed a historic 2009 season by capturing their first ever DAC conference title in Rapid City, S.D. The Trojans placed 16th at the NAIA nationals and 19th in the final NAIA Cross Country national rankings.
Black Hills State is second in the DAC men's cross country preseason poll. Minot State is third, followed by South Dakota School of Mines fourth, Dickinson State fifth, Jamestown sixth and Valley City State seventh.
Dakota State women's cross country team placed fourth in last year's DAC cross country championship meet. Black Hills State ranks first followed by Jamestown. Dickinson State is fourth, Minot State fifth, South Dakota School of Mines sixth and Valley City State seventh.
The Trojan men's and women's runners will open their 2010 campaign, under first-year head coach Mike Nekuda, in the Dakota Wesleyan Invitational on Friday, Sept. 3. The meet will be held in Mitchell, S.D. at 4 p.m.
