September 9, 2010

The Dakota State University Trojan Football team plays their first road game of the season on Saturday.  The Trojans will face NCAA Division III University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks in a non-conference game.  The kickoff is slated at noon at the Perkins Stadium.

Whitewater is located in Wisconsin, southeast of Madison, Wis.  From Madison, S.D., it takes approximately 515 miles (or eight hours) to get to Whitewater.

University of Wisconsin-Whitewater captured the NCAA Division III national championship last season.  They had appeared in the NCAA Football Division III national championship game in the last five years, winning in 2007 and 2009.

The Warhawks are currently on a nine non-conference game winning streak and won 16 straight games.  Their last loss was to Mount Union (Ohio) on Dec. 20 in the 2008 Stagg Bowl game.  UW-W is currently ranked No. 1 in D3football.com.

Wisconsin-Whitewater is a member of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).

Dakota State suffered a 38-7 defeat to Midland Lutheran of the Great Plains Athletic Conference in Trojans' season opener on Aug. 28.  The Trojans were idle last week.  Wisconsin-Whitewater is 1-0 overall record after posting a 35-0 home opener rout versus Adrian College on Sept. 4.
