DSU looks for first football victory Saturday in Mayville, N.D.

The Dakota State University team battles with Mayville State Comets for the first DAC conference win on Saturday.  Kick-off is slated for 1:30 p.m. at Jerome Berg Field in Mayville, N.D.

Dakota State's overall record is 0-8 and winless in six DAC conference games.  Mayville State is 1-7 overall and 0-6 in the conference.  The Comets defeated Trinity Bible 31-0 on Sept. 12.

DSU is currently on an eight-game losing streak, while the Comets have lost six straight games.

Last Saturday, Dakota State hosted Jamestown in their final home game of the season.  The Jimmies outscored the Trojans 24-14 in the second quarter for a 31-20 halftime lead.  The Trojans lost to Jamestown in a high scoring affair 58-48 at the Trojan Field.  Mayville State hosted their long-time rival Valley City State in Mayville, N.D.  The Vikings outscored the Comets 34-0 through late fourth quarter.  The Comets scored in the final minute of the game and lost to Valley City State 36-6.

Dakota State and Mayville State faced each other two times last year.  The Trojans and Comets played at Trojan Field on Oct. 31, 2009 in Madison, S.D.  Mayville State scored the first points of the game and held a 7-6 halftime lead.  The Trojans outscored the Comets 36-0 in the second half to defeat the Comets 42-7.

Both teams met one week later in the inaugural Dacotah Bank DAC Bowl at Fargodome on Nov. 8, 2009.  Dakota State led 7-0 in the first quarter.  The Comets scored 18 points in the second quarter to grab an 18-10 halftime lead.  The Trojans tied the game in the third quarter at 18-18.  The Comets had a 27-24 lead with less than two minutes left in game before DSU rallied for the victory.  DSU faced a 4th-and-long situation on Comets' 25-yard line and scored a touchdown to defeat Mayville State 31-27.

As of Thursday afternoon, the weather forecast in Mayville, N.D. predicts partly cloudy skies.  Temperatures will be in the upper 40's.
