DSU men's hoops lose to SDSU in exhibition game

BROOKINGS, S.D. - The Dakota State University men's basketball team faced NCAA Division I South Dakota State University in an exhibition game at Frost Arena. The Jackrabbits defeated the Trojans 82-63.
Dakota State's overall record is 1-1. South Dakota State, a member of the Summit League, opens their regular season on Nov. 12 at Eastern Illinois.
The Jackrabbits opened the game with a 13-5 run. SDSU shot 5-for-7, including 3-for-4 from the 3-point line in the first three minutes and 15 seconds in the game. The Trojans shot 2-for-6 from the field.
SDSU led 41-31 at halftime. The Jackrabbits was 16-for-37 (43.2 percent) from the field compared to the Trojans' 12-for-31 (38.7 percent). SDSU went 7-for-13 from the 3-point line compared to DSU's 5-for-14 in the first-half.
DSU went on a 5-2 run to cut the deficit to 43-36 in the early second-half. The Jackrabbits extended their lead to 62-50 with 7:34 left in the game.
SDSU used a 26-6 scoring tear to make their largest lead of the night at 78-56 with 3:14 left in regulation.
Four players scored in double digits for the Trojans. Santino Clay scored 17 points. He went 6-for-12 from the field and 4-for-6 at the free-throw line. Bryce Snyder added 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Jordan Snyder had 13 points and Mike Larsen added 12 points. Jordan King dished out five assists.
For South Dakota State, Nate Wolters went 4-for-8 from the field, including 3-for-4 at the 3-point line for 14 points. He recorded seven assists. Marcus Heemstra scored 14 points off the bench and shot 7-for-11 from the field. Clint Sargent scored 13 points. Dale Moss had 11 points.
Twelve different players scored for the Jackrabbits.
SDSU shot 43.1 percent from the field (31-for-72) compared to the Trojans' 36.2 percent (21-for-58). The Jackrabbits went 10-for-21 at the 3-point line (47.6 percent) DSU was 7-for-24 at the 3-point line (29.2 percent).
South Dakota State won the rebounding battle 53-33. The Jackrabbits recorded 20 offensive rebounds compared to the Trojans' eight.
Dakota State returns back to action this weekend. The Trojans face two teams from the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) in the University of Sioux Falls/Famous Dave's Classic. DSU faces Morningside on Friday night at 6 p.m. On Saturday, the Trojans face their in-state rival University of Sioux Falls, No. 8 in the NAIA Men's Basketball Division II Preseason Poll, at 4 p.m. All games will be at the Stewart Center.
