DSU men's runners second, women's sixth at DAC Championships

JAMESTOWN, N.D. - The Dakota State University men's and women's cross country teams competed in their last Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) cross country championship meet at Hillcrest Golf Course Friday early afternoon. The Trojan men's team took runner-up honors while the women's team captured sixth-place.
Black Hills State men's team captured the team title with 26 points. The Trojans scored 50 points to place second. South Dakota School of Mines was third with 89 points. Minot State placed fourth (92 points), followed by Jamestown fifth (144 points), Valley City State (155 points) and Dickinson State seventh (184 points). There were a total of 55 runners in the men's 8K race.
DSU's Devon Berkness captured the men's individual title. He ran a time of 26 minutes and 20 seconds. Andy Coy captured third place with a time of 26:31. Matt Fideler finished sixth in 26:57. Berkness, Coy and Fideler qualified for NAIA Men's Cross Country National Championships.
Other DSU men's place finishers are Cliff Lewis (19th - 28:21), Thomas Kjerengtroen (24th - 28:36), Michael Hoffman (27th - 28:44), John Bintliff (33rd - 29:28), Andrew Manning (36th - 29:46), Kace Groff (39th - 29:48), Andy Quenzer (43rd - 30:26) and Keith Huffman (49th - 30:59).
The Yellow Jackets women's team, No. 9 in the latest NAIA Women's Cross Country National Poll, won the team title with 29 points. Jamestown placed second with 72 points. Minot State was third with 80 points, followed by Dickinson State fourth (104 points), SD Mines fifth (107 points) and Dakota State sixth (139 points). Valley City State scored incomplete. A total of 50 runners competed in the women's 5K race.
Stephanie Warnke placed eighth with a time of 19:17 and qualified for NAIA Nationals. Samantha Drealan was 23rd in 20:51. Carissa Holtrop placed 41st (23:54). Summer Bronson was 42nd with a time of 24:25. Sara Schultz placed 46th in 25:12. Nicole Jurrens placed 47th (25:13).
Berkness, Coy, Fideler and Warnke will have two weeks to prepare for the NAIA National Cross Country National Championship on Nov. 20. The meet will be held in Vancouver, Wash., with the women's race to start at 12:30 p.m. (CT) and men's to follow.
