Trojans fall to UM-Morris in women's basketball on the road

MORRIS, Minn. - The Dakota State University women's basketball continued their action on the road Thursday night. The Trojans faced NCAA Division III University of Minnesota-Morris at Physical Education Center. DSU fell short to the Cougars 71-63.
Dakota State dropped their third straight game after winning their season home opener. Minnesota-Morris remained undefeated in two games.
The Cougars led 31-26 at halftime. The Trojans were unable to make a comeback in the second-half as the Cougars outscored the Trojans 40-37.
Katie Bourk scored 15 points for the Trojans. She grabbed seven rebounds. Kylie Westover added 11 points. Aneshia Starks had 10 points and stole the ball five times. LaTasha Dowell scored eight points off the bench.
Tara Thielke had 17 points off the bench for Minnesota-Morris. She shot 5-for-10 from the field, 2-for-6 from the 3-point line and 5-for-6 at the free-throw line. Emily Mehr and Diane Blommel each had 10 points. Steph Roggenbuck added nine points and grabbed eight rebounds.
The Cougars shot 22-for-47 from the field (46.8 percent) compared to the Trojans' 24-for-74 (32.4 percent). Minnesota-Morris was 23-for-31 at the free-throw line compared to DSU 7-for-9.
UMM won the rebounding battle 35-31. The Cougars committed 20 turnovers compared to the Trojans' 16.
Dakota State looks to bounce back in the winning column on Friday night. The Trojans will face Trinity Bible at Ray Ulmer Fieldhouse in Ellendale, N.D. The non-conference game will tip-off at 6 p.m.
