Trojan women’s basketball snaps three-game losing streak Friday night

Katie BourkELLENDALE, N.D. – The Dakota State University women's basketball team continued to play on the road Friday night. The Trojans traveled to Ray Ulmer Fieldhouse to face Trinity Bible College in a non-conference game. Dakota State held the Lions under 20 points in each half as the Trojans rout Trinity Bible 90-37.

Dakota State snapped their three-game losing streak and raised their overall record to 2-3. Trinity Bible dropped their record to 2-2.

Five players scored in double digits for the Trojans. Katie Bourk had 16 points. She shot 6-for-9 from the field, including 4-for-6 from the 3-point line. Bourk recorded six steals in the game. Ashley Hansen scored 15 points on her 5-for-8 shooting from the field (3-for-6 from the 3-point line). Julie Munson added 13 points off the bench. April Mielke had 12 points and four steals. Chelsey Schake scored 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Yui Onodera contributed eight assists.

No players scored in double digits for Trinity Bible. Quimby Handy and Tatiana Alualu each scored eight points. Shianne Montgomery added seven points. Kayla Droste grabbed six rebounds.

Dakota State shot 31-for-61 (50.8 percent) from the field compared to the Lions' 14-for-49 (28.6 percent). The Trojans shot 15-for-35 (42.9 percent) from the 3-point line compared to Trinity Bible 3-for-17 (17.6 percent).

A total of 60 turnovers committed in the game – 33 by Trinity Bible and 27 by the Trojans. DSU outrebounded Trinity Bible 38-25.

Dakota State will continue to play on the road Tuesday night. The Trojans will face NCAA Division II Minnesota State-Mankato in an exhibition game. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. at the Pepsi Center.
