Trojan men's basketball team prepares for DAC season opener Friday

November 30, 2010

The Trojan men's basketball team will open their final year of the Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) season on Friday night.  DSU will visit their DAC's traveling partner Mayville State in both teams' lone conference game this month.  Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m., or 25 minutes after the completion of the women's game.

DSU is 5-4 overall record this season.  The Trojans suffered an overtime defeat (84-80) to NCAA Division II Wayne State on Nov. 28.  Mayville State is 3-3 overall record.  The Comets will host NCAA Division III University of Minnesota-Morris on Tuesday night.  Mayville State had won three straight games to open the season, but suffered a three-game losing streak before entering Tuesday night's contest.

In the first edition of the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball 'Top 25' Poll released on Nov. 29, the Trojans received recognition to the poll.  DAC's fellow Black Hills State dropped two spots from No. 6 to No. 8.  Jamestown remained at No. 22.

Dakota State and Mayville State split their two meetings last year with each team winning on their own home court.  The Comets won the last meeting 59-57 on Jan. 28 in Mayville, N.D.  DSU defeated Mayville State 81-69 on Dec. 5, 2009 at DSU Fieldhouse in Madison, S.D.
