WBK: #2 Broncos roll past Trojans 81-50

MADISON, S.D. - Hastings head coach Jeff Dittman made his return to the DSU Fieldhouse Saturday night to face his longtime former team Dakota State. After a close contest in the first half, the Broncos used a 49-26 second-half run to defeat the Trojans 81-50.
Hastings, No. 2 in the latest NAIA Women's Basketball Division II National Poll, snapped the Trojans' two-game winning streak and dropped to 6-7 overall. The Broncos won their 11th straight game and raised their overall record to 15-2.
The Broncos opened with an 8-2 run. The Trojans responded with an 11-0 run to take a 13-8 lead with 13:40 left in the first half.
With the score tied at 15-15 with 11:58 to go in the first half, the Broncos used a 17-9 run to take a 32-24 halftime lead. Hastings took advantage of Trojans' 16 turnovers in the first half and outscored the Trojans 17-0 in points off turnovers. In addition, the Broncos scored 22 points in the paint compared to the Trojans' 10.
The Trojans could not get any closer than six points in the second half as the Broncos secured the victory.
Donna Lavea recorded her fourth straight double-double. She scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Lavea had two blocked shots. Ellesse Washington added 13 points. Washington and Katie Bourk each dished out three assists.
Four players scored in double figures for the Broncos. Lindsay Ducey recorded 21 points and gathered 10 rebounds. Kim Faimon and Alicia Statler each added 14 points. Becky Tesch scored 12 points off the bench.
Statler had eight rebounds for Hastings. Heather McKeon recorded five assists and Faimon had seven steals.
The Broncos outshot the Trojans 49.3 percent (34-for-69) to 40.8 percent (20-for-49). The Trojans were outrebounded by two rebounds (35-33).
The Trojans committed 30 turnovers in the game compared to the Broncos' 16. Hastings scored 29 points off turnovers to the Trojans' four.
Hastings scored 52 points in the paint compared to the Trojans' 24.
DSU will return back to DAC Conference action next weekend. The Trojans will face No. 13 Minot State on Friday, Jan. 8 at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, Jan. 9, DSU will host Dickinson State at 4 p.m. All games will be at the DSU Fieldhouse.
