DSU women's basketball team heads on the road this weekend

January 4, 2011

The Dakota State University women's basketball team returns back to Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) action this weekend.  The Trojans will visit Minot State on Friday night at the MSU Dome.  Game starts at 5:30 p.m.

On Saturday, DSU travels to Dickinson State for a 5 p.m. (CT)/4 p.m. (MT) game.  The game will be held at the Scott Gymnasium.

It could be Dakota State's last time traveling to Minot and Dickinson this weekend.  Next year, the Trojans are making a transition to the Association of Independent (A.I.I.), while Minot State makes a move to NCAA Division II.

Dakota State is 4-8 overall record and 0-1 in the DAC.  The Trojans lost to their in-state rival Dakota Wesleyan 70-52 in Mitchell, S.D. on Jan. 3.  The last DAC game was on Dec. 3, 2010 when DSU lost to Mayville State 77-67 on the road.

Minot State is 10-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference.  The Beavers lost to Dordt (IA) 71-67 in overtime and defeated Emmanuel College 57-41 as part of the Holiday Inn Express Tournament in Florida on Dec. 28 and 29.  Minot State is No. 13 in the latest NAIA Division II Women's Basketball national poll.

Dickinson State is 7-6 and 0-2 in the DAC.  The Blue Hawks are currently on a three-game winning streak.

Minot State won both meetings from Dakota State last season.  In the first meeting on Jan. 8, 2010 in Madison, S.D., the Beavers found themselves down 33-23 at halftime and rallied to defeat Dakota State 68-66.  On Feb. 6, 2010, Minot State beat the Trojans 79-60.

Dakota State lost both meetings to Dickinson State last year.  The Blue Hawks survived Trojans' late rally 58-56 on Jan. 9, 2010 in Madison, S.D.  Dickinson State needed an overtime to defeat Dakota State 73-64 in Dickinson, N.D. on Feb. 5, 2010

The game will be available on a live video website from 'America One'.  Check on www.dsuathletics.com under 'Upcoming Events' for more information.

Radio coverage will be also available live on KJAM FM 103.1 with the Trojan voice of Brian Holt.
