DSU Athletics release 2011 Trojan Football schedule
January 5, 2011
The Dakota State University Athletic department is excited to announce the 2011 Trojan Football schedule. As Dakota State makes it transition to the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) this fall, DSU will be playing a total of 11 games - eight games against Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) teams (three teams - Dordt College, Dakota Wesleyan University and Northwestern College that were in the former South Dakota-Iowa Intercollegiate Conference with Dakota State) and three games against former Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) teams.
The Trojans start the 2011 season with three straight games against members of the GPAC. DSU will start the schedule on the road at Fremont, Neb. as they face Midland University on Aug. 27.
Dakota State begins their home season at Trojan Field on Sept. 3 versus in-state rival Dakota Wesleyan University and Doane College on Sept. 10.
DSU faces their former DAC member Valley City State University on Sept. 17 in Valley City, N.D.
The annual Trojan Homecoming is scheduled for Sept. 24 as Dakota State hosts Northwestern College.
The Trojans head out on the road for two straight games in Nebraska - Oct. 1 at Concordia University (Neb.) and Oct. 8 at Hastings College.
DSU returns home to conclude their last two home games in late October. Dakota State will host two teams from Iowa - Briar Cliff University on Oct. 15 and Dordt College on Oct. 22.
The Trojans will conclude their season with two straight games on the road against former DAC members. Dakota State travels to South Dakota School of Mines (who belonged to both the SDIC and DAC) in Rapid City, S.D. on Oct. 29. DSU will end the regular season versus Mayville State, at a possible neutral site to be determined later.
All DSU football game start times will be announced at a later date.
The NAIA National playoffs will begin on Nov. 19. As an A.I.I. member, the highest independent team ranked in the national poll's top 16 will qualify for the playoffs. The national championship game will be held on Dec. 17.
