Dickinson State beat Trojans men’s hoopsters

Spencer AdamsDICKINSON, N.D. – The Dakota State University men's basketball team continued their DAC conference action Saturday night. The Trojans visited Dickinson State at the Scott Gymnasium. After a low scoring affair in the first-half, the Blue Hawks' second-half fast start defeated the Trojans 56-47.

Dakota State suffered their second straight loss. The Trojans dropped their overall record to 9-7 and 1-2 in the DAC. Dickinson State improved their record to 11-7 and undefeated in four conference games.

There were five ties and eight lead changes in the first-half. Dickinson State grabbed a 21-17 halftime lead.Mike Larsen

Both teams struggled from the field in the first-half, shooting 19.2 percent (5-for-26) compared to the Blue Hawks' 35.3 percent (6-for-17).The Blue Hawks started the second-half with a 12-2 run to extend their lead to 33-19 with less than 16 minutes left in the game. Dickinson State outscored the Trojans 35-30 in the second-half.

Spencer Adams led the Trojans with 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Mike Larsen added nine points and recorded seven rebounds. Jordan King had seven points, five rebounds and two assists. Jordan Snyder scored six points off the bench and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. He had three steals.

Four players scored in double figures for Dickinson State. Matt Lee, Nate Lebsock and John Hanstad each had 14 points. Tevin Hurd added 10 points. Lebsock was 10-for-11 from the free-throw line. Derek Pauly recorded seven rebounds.

The Blue Hawks shot 39 percent overall (16-for-41) from the field compared to the Trojans' 31.4 percent (16-for-51).

Dickinson State converted 19-of-32 free-throws (59.4 percent) compared to Dakota State 9-for-15 (60 percent).

The Trojans won the rebounding battle 41-31.

Dakota State will return home for the first time in 2011 next weekend. The Trojans will host South Dakota School of Mines on Friday night in Trojans' conference season home opener. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. or 25 minutes after the completion of the women's game at the DSU Fieldhouse.
