Trojan indoor track & field have strong performances in two meets

The Dakota State University women's and men's indoor track and field teams competed in two meets last weekend. Three DSU athletes had produced national automatic qualifying marks.
The Trojans took nine individuals to Iowa State Open in a two-day event in Ames, Iowa. The meet featured top teams from NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA schools.
Andy Coy placed third in the men’s 800-meter run with a time of one minute and 54.91 seconds. He qualified for NAIA Indoor Track and Field nationals. Andy Quenzer was 22nd in 1:59.20 and Jerad Schlobohm placed 40th in 2:02.49.
Brittany Young set a new DSU school and personal records in the women’s 800-meter run. She placed fifth with a time of 2:16.79 and qualified for NAIA Nationals. Stephanie Warnke, ran as unattached, finished 10th with a time of 2:22.01.
Warkne placed 41st in the women’s one-mile run with a time of 5:32.50.
In the women’s high jump, Danielle Rowe improved her national automatic qualifying mark. She placed sixth with a jump of five feet and five inches.
Anthony Drealan (unattached) finished third in the men’s 5000-meter run with a time of 14:45.10. Devon Berkness was 8th in 15:03.94, which he produced a national provisional qualifying mark.
Drealan was 12th in the men’s one-mile run in 4:19.64, while Berkness was 36th in 4:31.43.
Jared Mengenhausen ran in the 400-meter dash and finished 42nd (52.38 seconds). He was 76th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.68 seconds.
The men’s 4 x 400-meter relay (Mengenhausen, Coy, Schlobohm and Quenzer) placed 23rd in 3:30.65.
Dakota State took the majority of the team to Wildcat Open at the Wayne State Recreation Center on Saturday. Host-school Wayne State, Dakota State, Morningside, South Dakota School of Mines, Buena Vista, Mount Marty and Briar Cliff participated in the meet.
Karisa Hartje 3rd in women’s 600-meter run 1:53.71, 26th in women’s 200-meter dash 31.84 seconds
In the women’s 600-meter run, Karisa Hartje was third with a time of 1:53.71.
Four Trojan runners placed in the top eight in the women’s 400-meter dash. Clarie Beck ran a time of 1:05.42 for a fourth-place finish. Amy Pheneger was fourth in 1:07.52. Nicole Jurrens finished sixth in 1:11.11. Sara Schultz was 8th in 1:15.74.
Schultz placed third in the women’s 1000-meter run with a time of 3:51.75.
Brandi Gau finished 4th in the women’s 60-meter dash with a time of 8.54 seconds.
Summer Bronson placed sixth in the women’s 60-meter hurdles. She finished with a time of 10.30 seconds.
Gau was 6th in the women’s 200-meter dash in 28.65 seconds. Bronson was 11th with a time of 29.38 seconds. Pheneger finished 16th (29.88 seconds). Laura Porch placed 18th in 30.37 seconds. Beck finished 22nd (31.21 seconds) and Jurrens was 24th (31.70 seconds).
In the women’s field events, Amber Krogstad placed fifth in the long jump with a measurement of 16 feet and 5.25 inches. She was 9th in the high jump (4 feet and 11.75 inches). Brittany Pearson threw a weight throw with measurement of 38 feet and nine inches for a ninth-place finish. She was 11th in the shot put (31 feet).
On the men’s side, Stacey Berg finished 6th in the men’s 60-meter dash with a time of 7.40 seconds. He was third in the long jump with a measurement of 21 feet and 11.75 inches.
Craig Bailey captured a second-place finish in the high jump. He finished with a jump of six feet and 0.75 inches. Nate Schulz was tied for fourth place with a measurement of five feet and 10.75 inches.
Matt Fideler (ran as unattached) placed third in the men’s one-mile run in 4:36.60. Michael Hoffman ran a time of 4:54.52 for 12th-place finish. Kace Groff was 14th in 5:01.56.
In the men’s 1000-meter run, Hoffman finished sixth in 2:51.37 and Groff was 7th (2:53.23).
Ryan Huizenga ran a time of 9.64 in the men’s 60-meter hurdles for a fifth-place finish.
Phil Carmody was sixth in the men’s long jump (20 feet and eight inches).
Other men’s place finishers are: Gabe Samuelson (8th in 400-meter dash – 55.75 seconds and 15th in 200-meter dash – 25.06 seconds); Chance Clason (18th in 200-meter dash – 25.42 seconds); Carmody (16th in 200-meter dash – 25.21); Joshua Scott (24th in 200-meter dash – 26.44 seconds); Huizenga (17th in 200-meter dash – 25.31 seconds); Schulz (16th in long jump – 18’5”); Jordy Peterson (18th in long jump (18’2.5”); Shane Whidby (7th in shot put – 43’5” and 14th in weight throw - 36’0.75”); Ryan Gimbel (13th in shot put – 37’5.75” and 15th in weight throw – 34’10.25”); Jeff Rieger (16th in weight throw – 34’0.75”) and Trevor Rosstznecht (17th in weight throw – 30’10.25”).
Dakota State will return back to action on Saturday as they compete in the Buena Vista/Graphic Edge Open. The meet will be held in Storm Lake, Iowa.
