Olsen joins DSU Trojan Football team

Jeb OlsenDakota State University Trojan Football head coach Josh Anderson is excited to announce the signing of Jeb Olsen who will join his program in the fall.  Olsen will be a running back for the Trojans.

Olsen, 5'9" and 175 pounds, comes from Canistota High School under head coach Lenny Schroeder, a football alumnus of DSU.  Olsen earned numerous football honors in his career, which was capped off with his Canistota Hawks winning the 2010 '9B' State Football Championship.  Jeb was chosen as the 'Joe Robbie Most Valuable Player' during the championship game.

Jeb OlsenOlsen was recognized as a South Dakota 9-Man All-American and his Hawks earned the South Dakota Sports Writer 'Team of the Year' honors.  He was named as the Mitchell Daily Republic's Football Player of the Year, selected to the Argus Leader 'Elite 45' team, and received the KDLT/Taco John's Athlete of the Week and Touchstone Energy player of the week (three times).

Olsen was voted a Class '9B' All-State running back in 2010 and Class '9AA' All-State Honorable Mention special teams player in 2009.  He was the 2010 Cornbelt Conference Most Valuable Player and 1st team All-Conference running back.  Olsen has earned All-Conference three times in his career.

Olsen, a team captain, was also selected as the Hawks' Most Valuable Player by his peers.  He set school records as the single-season and career leading rusher, as well as the single-season and career scoring records.

In 2010, Olsen rushed 157 times for 1,751 (11.2 per rush).  He scored 35 rushing touchdowns and converted 15 two-point conversions.  Olsen had three receptions for 71 yards and recorded two touchdowns.  On defense, Olsen amassed 63 tackles.  He had three interceptions, which he returned for 75 yards including one for a touchdown.  Olsen was part of the special teams where he recorded one kick-off return for a touchdown.  He had three kick-off returns for 88 yards and four punt returns for 100 yards.

During his career at Canistota High School, Olsen recorded 368 rushing attempts for 3,125 yards with 48 touchdowns, scored 26 two-point conversions and pulled in 13 receptions for 230 yards and five touchdowns.  Defensively, Olsen recorded 183 career tackles and five interceptions with one he returned for another touchdown (which was the 2010 State Championship game).  On special teams, he returned 24 punts for 471 yards with two touchdowns and 25 kick-off returns for 588 yards with two additional touchdowns.

Besides football, Olsen lettered in basketball and track.  As a junior, he was a member of the 4 x 100-meter relay team that won the State Class 'B' Championship.

Jeb is the son of Jelene Olsen of Canistota, S.D.  He plans to major in Graphic Design at Dakota State University.
