Trojan men’s hoopsters extend winning streak with win over Lancers

YANKTON, S.D. – In the final non-conference game of the season, the Dakota State University men's basketball team faced Mount Marty College of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) on Saturday night. The Trojans defeated the Lancers 69-59 to surpass last year's total wins at the Cimpl Arena.
Dakota State won their third straight game and raised their overall record to 12-10. The Trojans finished the season with a 6-4 record against GPAC teams. Mount Marty lost their second straight game and dropped their record to 7-15.
DSU led 20-18 with six minutes and 33 seconds left in the first-half. The Trojans scored the next seven points to grab a 27-18 lead with 4:20 left before intermission.
Dakota State maintained their nine-point lead (34-25) at halftime.
Mount Marty used an 8-2 scoring tear in the first 3:43 of the second-half to trim the Trojans' lead to 36-33. DSU answered with nine straight points to extend their lead to 45-33 with 13:26 left in the game.
Dakota State expanded to their largest lead of the game at 67-50 with 4:03 left in regulation to secure the victory.
Mike Larsen led the Trojans with 16 points and recorded four steals. He went 6-for-13 from the field, including 3-for-7 from the 3-point arc. Spencer Adams added 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Jordan Snyder scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds off the bench. He recorded four steals. Bryce Snyder had nine points and eight rebounds. Santino Clay scored eight points and grabbed nine rebounds.
Stephen Klekas had 15 points and seven rebounds for the Lancers. Spencer Yackley recorded a double-double of 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. He dished out four assists. Klekas and Jared Wall each had five steals.
Dakota State shot 43.5 percent from the field (27-of-62) compared to the Lancers' 41.4 percent (24-for-58).
The Trojans outrebounded Mount Marty 41-33. Both teams committed 15 turnovers in the game.
Dakota State looks to extend their winning streak as they return back to Dakota Athletic Conference game next weekend. The Trojans host Dickinson State on Friday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. or 25 minutes after the completion of the women's game.
