Dakota St. women's hoopsters return home this weekend

The Dakota State University women's basketball team returns home this weekend for a pair of Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) games.  The Trojans host Dickinson State on Friday night at 5:30 p.m.  On Saturday afternoon, DSU will welcome Minot State for a 4 p.m. game.  All games will be at the DSU Fieldhouse.

Dakota State is 5-15 overall and 1-7 in the DAC conference.  The Trojans suffered a pair of five-point defeats.  DSU lost to Mayville State (80-75) on Jan. 26 and AIB College of Business (66-61) on Jan. 29.

Dickinson State is 11-10 overall and 4-5 in the conference.  The Blue Hawks suffered a pair of home losses last week.  Dickinson State lost to Valley City State (47-38) on Jan. 26 and No. 21 Jamestown (78-72) on Jan. 30.

Minot State is 14-6 and 5-4 in the DAC.  The Beavers posted two straight home victories in Minot, N.D. last week.  Minot State defeated No. 21 Jamestown 76-68 on Jan. 26.  On Jan. 30, the Beavers posted a 67-54 win over Valley City State.  Minot State received votes to the national poll 'Top 25' released on Jan. 31.

Dickinson State took the first meeting from Dakota State at the Scott Gymnasium in Dickinson, N.D. on Jan. 8.  The Blue Hawks used a strong second-half surge to defeat the Trojans 64-54.  Dakota State held the largest lead of the game at 35-21 with less than three minutes remaining.  The Blue Hawks trimmed their deficit to 35-26 at halftime.  Dickinson State used a 20-4 spurt in the first nine minutes of the second-half for a 46-39 lead.  With Blue Hawks leading at 55-54 with less than two minutes left in the game, Dickinson State went on to close the game with a 9-0 run.

Minot State won the first meeting from the Trojans 79-57 at the MSU Dome in Minot, N.D. on Jan. 7.  The Beavers used a 15-8 scoring run to take a 39-28 halftime lead.  Minot State continued their scoring run in the early second-half to extend their lead to 52-32.  Dakota State struggled from the field in the second-half, shooting 23.5 percent compared to the Beavers' 63.3 percent.

It could be Trojans' last regular DAC conference games with Dickinson State and Minot State before making transitions next year.  The Trojans will be making a move to NAIA Independent.  Dickinson State will remain as a four-member of the Dakota Athletic Conference with Valley City State, Jamestown and Mayville State.  Minot State had been accepted to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference as they make their move to NCAA Division II next season.
