DSU women’s hoopsters fall to No. 9 BHSU

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Dakota State University women's basketball team began their final Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) road trip on Friday night. The Trojans visited nationally-ranked Black Hills State at the Donald E. Young Gymnasium. The Yellow Jackets never trailed in the game as BHSU defeated DSU 88-58.
Dakota State dropped their overall record to 6-17 and 2-9 in the DAC Conference. Black Hills State, No. 9 in the latest NAIA Division II Women's Basketball national poll raised their overall record to 19-5 and 9-2 in the DAC.
BHSU scored the eight straight points in the first three minutes and two seconds of the game. The Trojans cut their deficit to 20-14 with 11:07 left before intermission.
The Yellow Jackets took a 46-36 halftime lead.
Black Hills State outscored Dakota State 42-22 in the game's final 20 minutes.
Katie Bourk led DSU with 11 points. She was 4-for-9 from the field, including 3-for-7 beyond the 3-point line. Julie Munson added nine points and grabbed five rebounds. LaTasha Dowell and Aneshia Starks each scored eight points. Starks had six rebounds and dished out three assists.
Four players scored in double digits for the Yellow Jackets. Keely Krolikowski scored 22 points (9-for-13 from the field). Kristi Ryan added 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Katelynn Lamb and Mandy Brumfield each scored 10 points. Bayley Chevron dished out four assists.
BHSU shot 47.8 percent from the field (33-for-69) compared to the Trojans' 34.6 percent (18-for-52).
The Trojans were outrebounded by the Yellow Jackets 46-31. DSU suffered 20 turnovers in the game compared to BHSU 13.
Dakota State will travel to the King Center in Rapid City, S.D. on Saturday. The Trojans will take on South Dakota School of Mines in a DAC conference game. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. (CT)/4 p.m. (MT). DSU defeated the Hardrockers 66-59 in the first meeting on Jan. 14 in Madison, S.D.
