Trojan women's basketball concludes regular season at home

The Dakota State University women's basketball team concludes their regular season this weekend at the DSU Fieldhouse. The Trojans will play their final Dakota Athletic Conference games. On Friday night (sponsored by DriverWebsites.com), DSU hosts Valley City State at 5:30 p.m. The Trojans welcome Jamestown on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
Dakota State is 6-18 overall and 2-10 in the DAC conference. DSU lost to nationally-ranked Black Hills State 88-58 on Feb. 11. The Trojans suffered a 78-58 defeat at South Dakota School of Mines on Feb. 12 in Trojans' final DAC regular season road game.
Valley City State is 18-8 overall and 8-4 in the conference. The Vikings' last game was on Feb. 9 in Valley City, N.D. where VCSU defeated their traveling partner Jamestown 80-59. Valley City State had won six of the last seven games and ranked No. 24 in the latest NAIA Division II Women's Basketball national poll.
Jamestown is 17-7 and 7-5 in the DAC. JC is currently on a two-game losing streak.
In the DAC standings, Valley City State holds a sole possession for second-place, two-game behind DAC's leader Black Hills State. Jamestown is tied for fourth place with Minot State. The Beavers hold a tiebreaker over the Jimmies since Minot State defeated JC twice this season. Dakota State and Mayville State is tied for seventh place. The DAC Women's Basketball Postseason Tournament will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 23. Pairings and times will be announced after the completion of Feb. 19 games.
In the first meeting in Valley City, N.D. on Jan. 22, DSU and VCSU traded leads in the early first-half. With the game tied at 13-13 with 14:25 left before halftime, the Vikings used a 34-14 scoring tear to take a 47-27 halftime lead. VCSU outscored the Trojans in the game's final 20 minutes to record an 88-54 win.
Jamestown won the first meeting from Dakota State 84-53 in Jamestown, N.D. on Jan. 21. The Jimmies opened the game with a 14-2 run in the first six minutes. JC expanded their lead to 41-21 with less than four minutes before halftime. The Trojans closed the first-half with a 7-0 scoring run to cut their deficit to 41-28. Jamestown outscored DSU 43-25 in the second-half.
DSU Faculty and Staff Appreciation night will be held on Friday night. They will be recognized during the game.
The women's basketball team will be taking part of 'Think Pink' night on Friday. The DSU Athletics department is encouraging fans to wear pink to raise cancer awareness in general. Each player and coach will be playing for someone with cancer.
Two seniors - Katie Bourk and LaTasha Dowell - will be recognized prior to the game on Saturday afternoon. They will be playing in their final home games of their collegiate career at the DSU Fieldhouse.
