February 22, 2011

The Dakota State Trojan men's basketball team faces Jamestown in the quarterfinal action of the Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) Post-Season Tournament on Wednesday.  The game will be held at the Civic Center in Jamestown, N.D.  Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. or 25 minutes after the completion of Dickinson State-Jamestown women's basketball game.

Dakota State is 15-13 overall record and 6-8 in their final year in the DAC.  The Trojans secured their first winning season since 1993 after defeating Valley City State 62-52 on Feb. 18.  DSU fell short to Jamestown 75-73 on Feb. 19.

Jamestown is 20-8 overall and 9-5 in the conference.  The Jimmies finished the conference in a three-way tie for second-place with SD Mines and Dickinson State.  JC won the final two regular season road games last weekend.  The Jimmies defeated Mayville State 80-63 on Feb. 18 and DSU (75-73) on Feb. 19.  Jamestown made a return trip back to the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball national poll last Monday.  JC ranks No. 25.

JC won both meetings from Dakota State by a combined three points.  Both games were decided by last play of the game.

Jamestown won by one-point (75-74) in both teams' first meeting at the Civic Center in Jamestown, N.D. on Jan. 21.  The Trojans opened the game with a 21-9 run before the Jimmies used a 20-10 scoring tear to trim DSU's lead to 31-29 at halftime.  Dakota State built a 12-point lead in the second-half.  JC mounted a late rally in the second-half and regained their lead at 75-74 after B.J. Martens hit a game winning jump shot.  The Trojans had an opportunity for their last possession, but the shot fell short.

In the second meeting on Feb. 19 at the DSU Fieldhouse in Madison, S.D., Dakota State grabbed a 34-24 halftime lead.  The Trojans extended to their largest lead of the game at 45-29 with 14:26 remaining in the game.  With the Trojans leading at 47-36, the Jimmies stormed back with a 13-2 run to tie the game at 49-49 with 9:52 left in the game.  Jacquez Williams made 1-of-2 free-throw to give JC a two-point lead.  DSU missed a 3-pointer shot at the buzzer as JC held on for a 75-73 victory.

It will be the fourth time for Dakota State and Jamestown that have met in the DAC quarterfinals.  The Jimmies are 2-1 in post-season games with DSU.  JC was the top-seed in 2004 and defeated the Trojans 90-55 on Feb. 25, 2004.  On Feb. 22, 2005, Dakota State (second-seeded) stormed past Jamestown 92-62 at the DSU Fieldhouse.  JC (top-seed) beat DSU 84-55 on Feb. 24, 2008 in Jamestown, N.D.
