Six Dakota State University indoor track and field athletes had been named to Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) All-Conference. To earn DAC All-Conference, an athlete needs to be placed in the top three individual events at the conference meet. The winning relay team also earns DAC All-Conference honor.
Senior Danielle Rowe won the DAC women's high jump for her third straight year. She leaped a new DSU school record measurement of five feet and seven inches at the DAC championship meet. The previous old school record was set by Desa Rae Doyle with a measurement of 5'6" in 2000. Danielle is the daughter of Robert and Michelle Rowe of Rapid City, S.D.
The women's 4 x 200-meter relay team (Summer Bronson, Rowe, Amber Krogstad and Brandi Gau) captured the title with a new DSU school record time of one minute and 46.65 seconds. The previous old record was set in 2001 by Jamie Calmus, Molly Hansen, Kristi VandenHoek and Tanya Olson with a time of 1:48.87.
Brittany Young (sophomore) placed second in the women's 800-meter run. She finished with a provisional qualifying mark time of two minutes and 19.24 seconds. Brittany is the daughter of Caryn Young of Casper, Wyo.
In the men's 800-meter run, sophomore Andy Coy finished first with a time of 1:57.10. He also won the men's one-mile run with a time of 4:19.54. Andy is the son of Rusty and Cindy Coy of Hill City, S.D.
Senior Devon Berkness captured the men's 5000-meter run. He clocked a time of 15 minutes and 32.64 seconds. Devon is the son of Bob and Marlis Mildenberg of Madison, S.D.
Dakota State will be taking four athletes (Rowe, Young, Coy and Berkness) to the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships. The meet will take place at the GaREAT (Geneva Area Recreational, Educational and Athletic Trust) Sports Complex in Geneva, Ohio on March 3-5.
