Coy and Rowe earn NAIA Indoor Track and Field All-American honors
March 7, 2011
GENEVA, Ohio - Three Dakota State University student-athletes competed in the final two day of the three-day NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships meet. The event was held at the GaREAT Sports Complex.
Andy Coy (sophomore - Hill City, S.D.) secured the top spot in the men's 1000-meter run semifinals on Friday evening. He ran a new DSU school record time of two minutes and 25.47 seconds, previously set by former All-American John Ecklein in 2000 (2:28.95). Coy was also six hundredths of a second shy of recording the fastest time in the history of South Dakota regardless of division in 1000-meter run.
In the men's 1000-meter finals on Saturday, Coy placed second with a time of 2:27.41. As a result, he earned NAIA Indoor Track and Field All-American honor for his second straight year.
Senior Danielle Rowe (Rapid City, S.D.) ended her stellar collegiate indoor track and field career by capturing a fourth-place finish in the women's high jump on Saturday. She leaped with a height measurement of five feet and 3.75 inches (1.62 meters). Rowe earned her third straight NAIA Indoor Track and Field All-American honor at Dakota State and fourth overall (earned her first All-American while attending Cornerstone University in her freshman year).
In the women's 800-meter run semifinals on Friday, Brittany Young (sophomore - Casper, Wyo.) placed fifth in the first heat with a time of 2:18.44. She finished 13th overall and did not qualify for the finals.
The NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships ended Dakota State's indoor track and field season. The Trojans will prepare for their first outdoor season meet on Friday, March 25 at the Trojan Field.
