DSU softball opens DAC conference play Friday & Saturday vs. VCSU
March 30, 2011
The Dakota State University softball team returns back to action this weekend versus Valley City State in both teams' Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) season opener. The Trojans and Vikings will play a four-game series at the Husky Dome in St. Cloud, Minn. The series were originally set to play in Valley City, N.D., but the snow covered and wet field conditions forced to move the series to the campus of St. Cloud State University.
The doubleheader starts on Friday at 11 p.m. On late Saturday night, the Trojans and Vikings square off at 10 p.m. with the second game to follow at approximately midnight.
Dakota State's last game was on March 12. The Trojans swept North Carolina Wesleyan in the Snowbird Tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C. to improve their overall record to 9-2. Valley City State is 6-9 overall. VCSU lost to Avila (Mo.) and Spring Arbor (Mich.) in their last two games of the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla.
DSU won the season series with the Vikings last year. The Trojans split their four-game series with VCSU at the Thue Softball Complex in Madison on April 2 and April 3, 2010. Dakota State eliminated the Vikings 5-3 in the DAC Postseason Tournament loser's out game in Valley City, N.D. on May 8, 2010.
