Trojans visit in-state rival USF in non-conference softball action Tuesday

The Dakota State University softball team continues their action on the road on Tuesday. The Trojans look to snap their four-game losing streak as they face their in-state rival University of Sioux Falls Cougars. The non-conference doubleheader will start at 4 p.m. at the Sherman Park in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Dakota State is 9-6 overall record and 0-4 in the Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC). The Trojans were 9-2 in the Snowbird Tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C. in early March. DSU suffered a four-game series sweep from Valley City State last weekend at the Husky Dome in St. Cloud, Minn.
University of Sioux Falls is 3-7 overall and 3-1 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC). The Cougars split with Midland University (lost 13-6 and won 8-1) on April 2 in Sioux Falls. USF opened their season with four straight shutout losses to No. 3 Concordia (Calif.) and No. 1 California Baptist on March 23-24.
DSU and USF met four times last season. The Cougars won three of four games from the Trojans. In their first meeting in Sioux Falls on March 25, 2010, both teams split with an idential score of 4-3. The first game went to the Cougars as they scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning with one out. Dakota State won the second meeting as they scored four unanswered runs in the top of the seventh inning. USF swept DSU in their third and fourth meetings (5-2 and 11-2) in Madison, S.D. on April 21, 2010.
