Dakota State competes in Red Raider Track & Field Open Saturday

ORANGE CITY, Iowa - The Dakota State University outdoor track and field team competed in the Red Raider Open, hosted by Northwestern (Iowa) at the Korver Field on Saturday.
Most of the Great Plains Athletics Conference members, few NCAA members and Dakota State competed in the meet.
Devon Berkness set a new meet record in the men's 10,000-meter run. He won the event with a time of 31 minutes and 29 seconds, which is third in the Trojan track record book. Berkness' time was an automatic NAIA national qualifying mark. Michael Hoffman was fourth with a time of 39:50.94.
In the men's 800-meter run, Andy Coy captured the title with a time of 1:55.37. Thomas Kjerengtroen was fifth in 1:59.87.
Anthony Drealan was second in the men's 1500-meter run. He finished with a time of four minutes and .15 seconds. Berkness was 11th in 4:13.02.
Danielle Rowe leaped a high jump with a measurement of five feet and 2.25 inches for a fourth-place finish.
Brandi Gau placed seventh in the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.48. Claire Beck finished ninth in 1:03.08.
In the women's 400-meter hurdles, Amber Krogstad was ninth in 1:10.94.
Brittany Pearson broke a DSU outdoor track and field record in women's hammer throw. She threw a hammer's measurement of 127 feet and one inch for a 11th place finish. The previous record was set by Katie Gylfe with 126 feet and four inches in 2009.
Ryan Gimbel set a new Trojan outdoor track and field record in men's hammer throw with a measurement of 113 feet and 10 inches (17th place finish in the meet). Shane Whidby is second in the DSU record book with a measurement of 107 feet and two inches (21st place finish). Trevor Rosstznecht recorded a fourth place in the DSU record book with a measurement of 105 feet and nine inches (22nd place finish).
The women's and men's 4 x 400-meter relays were canceled due to lightning.
Other place finishers are: Laura Porch (22nd in women's 100-meter dash - 13.72 seconds and 20th in women's 200-meter dash - 29.08 seconds); Stephanie Uher (13th in women's 400-meter dash - 1:03.85), Nicole Jurrens (17th in women's 400-meter dash - 1:07); Sara Schultz (33rd in women's 800-meter run - 2:49.08); Summer Bronson (10th in women's 100-meter hurdles - 17.02 seconds and 12th in 400-meter hurdles - 1:12.75); Amy Pheneger (13th in women's 400-meter hurdles - 1:12.84); Pearson (27th in women's shot put - 33' 1" and 13th in javelin throw - 87' 4"); Joshua Scott (53rd in men's 200-meter dash - 25.60 seconds); Jared Mengenhausen (15th in men's 400-meter dash - 53.30 seconds); Jerad Schlobohm (24th in men's 800-meter run - 2:05.72); Kace Groff (29th in men's 800-meter run - 2:09.11 and 18th in men's 1500-meter run - 4:18.82); Hoffman (39th in men's 800-meter run - 2:15.98); Ryan Huizenga (11th in men's 400-meter hurdles - 1:00.16); Phil Carmody (20th in men's long jump - 19' 5"), Jordy Peterson (22nd in men's long jump - 18' 5.75"); Nate Schultz (25th in men's long jump - 18' .25"); Whidby (tie-14th in men's shot put - 41' 6"); Jeff Rieger (16th in men's shot put - 40' 7.5" and 12th in men's discus - 127' 9"); Gimbel (21st in men's shot put - 38' 10.5" and 27th in men's discus - 104' 11") and Rosstznecht (11th in men's discus - 129 feet).
Dakota State will compete in the two-day Sioux City Relays event on Friday, April 15 and Saturday, April 16.
