Minot State ends DSU Baseball season in DAC Postseason Tournament

DICKINSON, N.D. - The Dakota State University baseball team continued their action in their final Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) Baseball Postseason Tournament at the Southside Municipal Park. The Trojans faced Minot State in the loser’s out game on Thursday morning. Minot State eliminated DSU from postseason action as the Beavers recorded a 12-2 victory in eight innings.
Dakota State finished their regular season at 3-37 overall record. Minot State, 2-1 in the tournament, raised their record to 15-22. The Beavers will play the winner of Valley City State-Dickinson State game in another loser's out game tonight (Thursday) at 8 p.m. (CT)/7 p.m. (MT).
Jaret Chatwood, Kory Houston and Scott Peters each recorded an RBI single with two outs in the opening inning to give Minot State a 3-0 lead.
Seth Doxey hit an RBI single to score Chance Hargrove in the top fourth frame for DSU’s first run of the game. Kyle Braun added an RBI single to score Doxey as the Trojans trimmed their deficit to 3-2.
The Beavers answered back with two runs scored in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jordan Gilmour hit a 2-RBI double to extend Beavers’ lead to 5-2.
Minot State put together a six-run sixth inning to expand their lead to 11-2.
Levi Kerns hit an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning as MSU ended the game by mercy run rule with two outs.
Braun was 3-for-4 behind the plate with three singles and an RBI for Dakota State. Chaz Palmer added two singles. Bruan and Palmer each recorded one stole base. Doxey had a single and an RBI. Max Garza and Craig Hertz each had a single.
For Minot State, Houston had a home run, a single and recorded four RBIs. Gilmour added a double, a single and three RBIs. Mitch Olson added two hits.
The Beavers had 14 hits in the game compared to the Trojans’ nine.
DSU left 10 runners on base. MSU had seven runners left on base.
Tom Bailey (1-10) recorded the loss for the Trojans. He tossed three innings and allowed three runs on four hits. Brandon Womack worked two innings in relief and gave up three runs on four hits. Connor Hargrove pitched in the sixth inning and allowed five runs on four hits. Beau Behrend worked the final 1 2/3 innings. He gave up one run on two hits.
Paul Thompson (2-3) pitched six innings in victory for the Beavers. He allowed two runs on six hits. Thompson recorded 11 strikeouts. Brody Pinkerton and Shane Seddon each worked one inning in relief.
Both teams will be making transitions this fall. Dakota State will be making a transition to Association of Independent Institutions next season. Minot State makes their move to NCAA Division II.
