DSU Softball ends season in final DAC Postseason Tournament

Box Score vs. Valley City State
MINOT, N.D. - In the loser's out game of the DAC Softball Postseason Tournament, the Dakota State University faced the tournament's third-seed Valley City State Friday afternoon at South Hill Complex. The Vikings eliminated the Trojans from postseason by the score of 8-0 in five innings.
DSU finished their regular season at 14-25 overall record. Valley City State improved their record to 20-18. VCSU remained alive in the postseason tournament and will face No. 4 seed Mayville State in a loser's out game at 5:30 p.m. tonight (Friday).
Valley City State scored three times in the top of the second inning to take a 3-0 lead.
Cyndi Figol hit a solo home run in the fourth inning to extend Vikings' lead to 4-0.
VCSU produced four runs in the top of the fifth inning to expand their lead to 8-0. The Trojans were unable to score and extend the game.
Jesica Alcala had a single and swiped two bases for Dakota State. Alisa Balesteri and Jessica Shaw each added a single.
Figol was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and recorded three RBIs for Valley City State. Paige Smith added three hits and two RBIs. Jennifer Shadlock had two hits and two runs scored.
The Vikings left 10 runners on base. DSU had five runners left on base.
Shaw (5-13) recorded the loss for the Trojans. She started the first two innings and allowed three runs on three hits. Brittany Tebbe worked three innings in relief. She gave up five runs on six hits.
Krystal Hathaway (9-6) pitched a complete game win for VCSU. She limited the Trojans to three hits in the game.
Dakota State will be making a transition to Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) next season.
